Step 2:
home visit

The home visit has a big part to play in helping us get to know each other better. Usually, this is exactly what it says: a visit to you, in your own home, by one of our experienced team members who’ll support you with your application.

We’ll tell you about fostering and the rewards – financial and emotional. We’ll explain how we support you, and what training we offer. We’ll ask you why you want to foster, and a little bit about your life and circumstances. We’ll also answer any questions or concerns you might have. We keep it informal and friendly and there’s no pressure to take things further.

Right now, however, it might not be possible to visit you at home, and so we’re able to do it online via video call. It’s different, but it still works, and the format’s the same. Usually, the visit takes around an hour or two but could be a little longer depending on the discussion. We want you to be comfortable, so there’s no hurry.

After the home visit, you can take as long as you like before deciding on whether you wish to continue. There’s no pressure either way. But if you’re happy to go on, the next step is to complete our application form.

Enquiry

You are required to have a spare bedroom that’s always available to a foster child. The spare room cannot be shared, and must be big enough to fit a single bed, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers.
