Transfer to Fosterplus
in just 3 months

Transferring to a different foster care agency is often easier than you think. As you are experienced and have already been through a fostering assessment, a lot of the information will be applied to your new Form F – allowing us to fast-track your assessment and approve you in as little as 3 months.

The process is fully confidential, and we'll talk you through each step of transferring, answer any questions you may have, and discuss any children who are already in your care.

Step 1 - Enquire

If you’re interested in transferring to Fosterplus, the first step is to give us a call on 0800 3698512 and speak with a member of our team. Alternatively, you can complete our online form and we'll give you a call back as soon as possible.

Our team will answer all your questions and talk you through the process and what it’s like to foster with Fosterplus.

Step 2 - Initial Visit

The second step is to have an initial visit. This can be in person or via an online video call, depending on which you prefer.

The visit is a great chance to get to know each other, discuss what Fosterplus can offer you, and talk through the details of fostering with us – including our support, referrals, allowances and we’ll discuss the process of transferring with a child.

Step 3 - Application & Assessment

When you decide you would like to transfer to another fostering agency, you will need to let your current fostering provider know that you wish to transfer. You can then proceed with completing an application form, which can be filled in online or on paper – whichever you prefer. At Fosterplus, our Recruitment Manager will support you with your application and can provide a template to use for your notice of intent to transfer.

Once you have submitted your application and a copy of your notice of intent to transfer, we’ll begin your assessment as soon as possible. As you likely know from your previous assessment, this will involve several social worker visits, where your assessor will gather information and complete your Form F. We offer a fast-track programme for experienced foster parents, so you can aim to be approved within 3 months.

During your assessment and within 28 days of receiving your notice of intent to transfer, your child’s placing local authority should arrange something called a ‘Transfer Protocol Meeting’. This is where you, your foster child’s placing local authority, your current fostering provider and a representative from Fosterplus will discuss your current foster child’s needs and make sure they’ll continue to be met once you’ve transferred to us. We’re experienced with these meetings and your Fosterplus advisor will support you every step of the way.

Step 4 - Panel & Transfer

As soon as your Form F assessment is completed, we’ll invite you to Panel. Our independent panel members will guide you through the process, leading to a recommendation being made about your approval status to our agency decision maker, who will approve you as soon as possible.

As soon as you’re approved, you’ll need to formally resign from your current fostering agency or local authority. Then just 28 days later, you’ll automatically transfer over to Fosterplus – with the current child in your care – when your new contract starts and your old one ends.

Frequently asked questions

Is it easy to transfer fostering agencies?

Transferring to Fosterplus is often easier than you think. You'll have a lot of the information from your previous fostering assessment and we've made the process as streamlined as possible so you can aim to be approved within 3 months.

How long will it take to transfer to your agency?

For foster carers who are transferring to us from another agency or local authority, we aim to complete your assessment within 3 months.

We know how much thought goes into transferring fostering agency and so ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible; supporting you and any children in your care throughout the entire transfer process.

Will I have to complete another Form F to transfer?

All fostering agencies operate individually and so Form F assessments are owned by the respective agency and cannot be transferred.

When you transfer to Fosterplus, we will complete a new Form F. However, we do take into consideration that you are already a foster parent, and ensure that your assessment is fast-tracked and as streamlined as possible.

Can I transfer with my current foster child?

Foster parents often transfer to us with children already in their care.

If you are transferring to Fosterplus with a child in placement then a protocol meeting will be held between ourselves, the local authority responsible for the child and your current fostering agency. This is in order to plan the transition and make sure that everyone is in agreement with how the foster child's needs will be met.

Do I need to inform my current agency that I am planning to transfer?

There is no need to inform your current fostering agency or local authority when you're thinking of transferring. The process is completely confidential so they will only know once you have decided to proceed with transferring and give notice to them.

Once you have attended panel for approval, you will then formally resign from your current agency.

What happens to my fostering allowance when I transfer?

We know that being paid is not the reason people foster. However we recognise that it is important to be able to meet a child's needs financially as well as be rewarded for your hard work. Therefore, when you transfer to Fosterplus we will aim to match, and possibly increase your fostering allowance payments.
