Becoming a Foster Carer
The first step to becoming a foster carer with Fosterplus is just a click away. “Request a callback” and we will get in touch with you.
When we contact you we will ask some basic questions to start with :
- Have you a spare bedroom?
- Are you over 21?
- How many people in your household?
We will then send you a pack of information about Fosterplus. After you have had a chance to read it we will contact you and arrange to come and see you for an informal discussion and talk about fostering and how being a foster carer could fit in with your family.
The majority of children and young people we look after are aged between 8 - 18 years and may have experienced difficulties in their life, could you be a foster parent to such children either on a short term or long term basis?
You can be married or single; you can be single or living with your partner of either the same or opposite sex. You will be over 21, have your own children or not, but you must be fit and well and have accommodation suitable for a child or young person to live in. We welcome applications from all ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds.
When we have had this discussion and the decision is made to go ahead, then we can go forward. This is called the "Assessment Process".
Have a look at our “Foster Carer’s on Fostering” a booklet we have produced which gives the views of some of our foster carers on their experiences. As this contains many photographs it might take a little time to come in but worth waiting for!
For those of you with children and young people in your family we have also produced “Fostering 4 U” which is written especially for children and young people to give them an insight into fostering.
