Allowances

As a foster care agency we prides itself on paying generous allowances to our foster carers. You will receive a weekly allowance, which is paid fortnightly to cover all the costs involved in looking after the child or young person in your care together with a reward element for yourself when a child is in placement. Birthday, Holiday, Christmas/Festival allowances are paid too.

This could be £21,000 - £27,000 per year taking into consideration the type of placement that you have and including the extra allowances mentioned above.                                                                                                                                                You will register as self employed and pay NI contributions and you may also be entitled to Working Tax Credits. Income tax will only be due on the 'reward element' of the allowance you receive and you might wish to seek advice on your own personal circumstances.
